The healthcare sector in Musandam Governorate witnessed the convening of the “Tawasul” Forum, which brought together health leaders in the governorate and members of the community to discuss the challenges facing the healthcare sector and to review future initiatives and programs aligned with Oman Vision 2040. These efforts aim to enhance the development of healthcare services, strengthen their integration, and ensure their sustainability. The forum had wide attendance and active participation from employees of government institutions, representatives of the private and civil sectors, health department officials, university students, and job seekers—reflecting a strong spirit of community partnership and shared responsibility toward advancing the healthcare system. Participants also called for the provision of oncology services at the new Khasab Hospital to reduce patients’ suffering and ensure the availability of modern medical equipment across all specialties. The meeting further addressed logistical challenges in the region, particularly the distance of the new Khasab Hospital from residential areas and the difficulty of accessing it during emergencies, especially during periods of heavy rainfall. The discussion also highlighted the need to establish integrated clinics for blood disorders such as thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Attendees stressed the importance of providing premarital screening services and equipping the new Khasab Hospital with advanced medical devices, in addition to engaging visiting physicians to meet the needs of rare specialties. They also emphasized activating specialized outpatient clinics to minimize the need to visit the new hospital except in emergency cases, in coordination with Khasab Health Complex. Participants further called for keeping pace with digital transformation in medical correspondence, utilizing office telephones and digital platforms to communicate with patients, and strengthening localization initiatives as well as training linked to employment opportunities for the governorate’s residents. It enhances employment opportunities and improves the quality of healthcare services. Participants emphasized the urgent need to provide a dedicated psychiatric ward in the new hospital and to increase the number of psychologists. The meeting also discussed health awareness initiatives in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to address certain issues among students, such as iron deficiency, and to activate awareness campaigns to reduce neglect in managing chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. At the conclusion of the forum, participants issued several recommendations, including strengthening communication between the community and health leaders to ensure that needs are met, providing specialized services locally to reduce the need to transfer patients outside the governorate, and developing the infrastructure of hospitals and health centers across the governorate, with a focus on emergency preparedness, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
