Muscat – The Omani Center for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation has won the Health Community Service Award at the "Basma Awards 2026." This honor recognizes the Center’s efforts and contributions to serving the community and raising awareness about the importance of human organ and tissue donation, as well as the sustainable humanitarian and health impact of these initiatives.
The Center was honored during the "Basma Awards 2026" ceremony held at the JW Marriott Hotel—located within the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat—attended by various officials and representatives from diverse institutions and sectors.
The "Basma 2026 Awards" aim to honor institutions, initiatives, and individuals who have made tangible and effective contributions to enhancing the social, environmental, and economic well-being of communities across the Sultanate of Oman. The awards also seek to highlight impactful initiatives that generate positive, sustainable change within society and support sustainable development efforts.
This recognition acknowledges the efforts dedicated to organizing human organ and tissue donation, fostering a culture of donation, and raising public awareness about the importance of donation as a humanitarian act that saves lives and improves the quality of life for patients in need of transplants.
The award also serves as an incentive to further develop community initiatives and strengthen partnerships and integration between health institutions and various sectors of society, thereby contributing to embedding a culture of giving and social solidarity, and supporting health and community development goals in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Royal Hospital, in collaboration with Khoula Hospital and the Oman Center for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation, successfully performed a comprehensive organ donation procedure involving a patient declared brain-dead.
