The Global Health and Peace Initiative (GHPI), which was prompted by the Sultanate of Oman in partnership with Switzerland and the World Health Organization (WHO), was approved recently at the conclusion of the meeting of the 154th session of the WHO Executive Board.
The Sultanate of Oman took place in this meeting with an official delegation headed by H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali bin Hilal Al-Sabti, Minister of Health.
The Global Health and Peace Initiative was approved after 5 years of serious work, which is credited to the Sultanate of Oman, consolidating the rational government’s approach to achieve the principle of peace among the countries of the world. This step will be followed by many preliminary steps to implement this initiative in the reality.
The Sultanate of Oman participated in several interventions in the meeting such as Follow-up Political declaration of the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, draft Global Plan of Action on prevention and Infection and Control, End TB Strategy, Antimicrobial Resistance, Accelerate the pace of National and Global Responses, Global Health for Peace Initiative.
The initiative seeks to strengthen and activate the link between health, social cohesion and peace by focusing on the important role that public health programs play in bringing together different groups and building confidence. The initiative contributes to enhancing resilience and confidence at the level of local communities, Population and governments.
The (GHPI) is the World Health Organization's contribution to sustaining peace and the interconnected relationship between humanitarian work, development and peace through universal health coverage for all.
Till then; The (GHPI) encourages and supports the development of health programs that take into account peace and conflict dynamics in fragile or conflict-affected settings and contribute to peace and social cohesion with stakeholders and other partners.
