The 1st Global and 2nd National Forum on Patient Safety, Incident Reporting, and Learning concluded today (Monday) at the Intercity Hotel Al Khuwair under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ahmed Salim Al-Mandhari, Undersecretary of Ministry of Health for Planning & Health Regulation.
The two-day Forum was organized by the Collaborating Center for Quality and Patient Safety in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, represented by the Quality Assurance Center in the Sultanate of Oman.
During the two days of the Forum, several specialized lectures on patient safety and incident reporting were presented by speakers from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Tunisia. The Forum attracted many participants from within and outside Oman.
In addition, the Forum discussed experiences and projects aimed at improving patient safety and learning from incidents.
Outstanding healthcare institutions and medical professionals were honored for their achievements in incident reporting and learning from them.
Furthermore, the Undersecretary for Planning and Health Regulation honored the distinguished participants in the following categories: highest category for optimal use of the Aman System, best project for improving patient safety, and highest category for reporting within the Aman System.
The Directorate General of Health Services in Al Buraimi Governorate and Sur Hospital got the best project in improving patient safety. The Directorate General of Health Services in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate and the Directorate General of Khoula Hospital achieved the highest category for optimal use of the Aman System. Additionally, the Directorate General of Health Services and Programs (Nursing) and the Directorate General of Medical Supplies received the award for the most incident reports.
It is worth mentioning that the focus on patient safety is a fundamental pillar around which healthcare quality improvement efforts revolve. It is one of the essential conditions for strengthening healthcare systems and making progress towards achieving effective universal health coverage in the Sultanate of Oman. Incident reporting and learning from them are among the key strategies pursued by the Ministry of Health, represented by the Quality Assurance Center.
