The Musandam First Conference on Disease Surveillance and Control, kicked off today (Monday) at the Khasab Hotel in the Musandam Governorate, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Said Harib Al-Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs
The two-day Conference, held under the theme 'A Collaborative Approach to Accelerate Communicable Disease Prevention and Control, is organized by the Directorate General of Health Services in Musandam, represented by the Department of Disease Surveillance and Control.
A number of Ministry officials and representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) attends the Conference.
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Nawal Ibrahim Al-Shihi, Director of Disease Surveillance and Control in Musandam, provided an overview of the disease surveillance and control services in the Governorate.
For her part, Dr. Amal Al-Maani, Director General of the Center for Disease Surveillance and Prevention, highlighted the development of public health systems in the Sultanate of Oman, focusing on the challenges and opportunities.
The Conference discusses the latest scientific developments and health challenges in the field of communicable disease control and prevention methods. It also highlights the collaboration between various sectors to achieve common goals in enhancing public health, such as municipalities, food quality and safety centers under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment, as well as the police and other government and private sectors.
The Conference features lectures by several local and international experts from the Ministry of Health's Center for Disease Surveillance and Prevention, Royal Hospital, the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Regional Office of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the University of Connecticut, and the Datahaven Foundation.
More than 120 healthcare professionals from all governorates of Oman, including epidemiologists, public health specialists, and environmental and occupational health experts from the Ministry of Health and the Disease Surveillance and Control Departments of the Directorate General of Health Services across various governorates are participating in the Conference, in addition to participants from other relevant authorities.
It is worth noting that the Conference is considered a cornerstone in achieving Oman Vision 2040. It provides an important opportunity to raise community awareness and improve practices in the field of communicable disease control. Furthermore, it reflects Oman’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for both citizens and residents.
