The Ministry of Health, represented by Directorate General of Quality Assurance Center launched on Thursday the World Health Organiztion(WHO)’s Patient Safety Friendly Hospital initiative (PSFH) at Badr Al Sama Hospital- Ruwi. The launching was held with the presence of Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, Director General of Quality Assurance Center.

Dr. Ahmed Al Mandhari remarked that the initiative aims at emphasizing the principle of service safety in health institutions besides assessing the patient safety in hospitals by the use of scientific standards. Additionally, the initiative develops the health workers’ competencies in the field of patients’ safety with the involvement of the beneficiaries. 

Dr. Al Mandhari pointed out that PSFH assessment is based on five domains which are leadership and management, Patient and public involvement, Safe evidence-based clinical practice, Safe environment, and lifelong-learning.

 This initiative has been launched previously at many governmental hospitals namely Nizwa, Rustaq, Khaoula and Al Nahdha, as well as at private hospitals of Starecare and Aster.
