To ensure the delivery of healthcare services to citizens and reduce waiting lists and referrals, the Ministry of Health inaugurated today (Thursday) number of new health projects in Sur Hospital.
The inauguration was held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Sabbaa Hamdan Al Saadi, Secretary General of the Secretariat General of National Celebrations, with the presence of H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, along with a number of their Excellencies and senior officials.
Dr. Yahya Al Masroori, Director of Sur Hospital, stressed that the Ministry has attentively worked to develop its healthcare services to meet the needs of the population and provide them with the highest level of care by developing institutional structures characterized by sustainable decentralization. This includes providing a healthy work environment for continuous professional development, which would positively impact the provided healthcare services. He added that the strength of developmental aspirations in the health sector lies in establishing an organized community partnership to ensure its enhancement.
This project is supervised directly by the Ministry of Health to align with the government's concerted efforts, to ensure the delivery of healthcare services to citizens and enhance decentralization in the governorates in accordance with the National Strategy of Oman Vision 2040.
The project includes number of rooms equipped with the latest catheterization equipment, a control room, a reception area, and a magnetic resonance imaging unit. This was funded by Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). A qualified medical staff in cardiac catheterization were recruited and nursing teams were trained.
In addition, the expansion project includes an oncology unit comprising an outpatient clinic for cancer patients' examinations, a room for chemotherapy preparation, and beds in the day-care unit to provide chemotherapy treatment for cancer patients. The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) in Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate supported the project by training medical teams at the National Oncology Center in Royal Hospital.
A neurology and stroke unit was part of the health projects, which comprises four beds for stroke patients. Funded by Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO), the unit is equipped with Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Electromyogram (EMG) devices, which is set to operate by the end of this year.
Furthermore, several medical devices have been operated such as pediatric echocardiogram, incubators and cooling devices for neonatal care, funded by Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
To ensure quality of services, medical teams were provided with training courses at Oman Medical Specialty Board, funded by Oman (LNG).
The expansion of Sur Hospital comes in response to the continuous growth in demand for specialized healthcare services from the residents of both North and South Ash Sharqiyah governorates. It will provide tertiary healthcare services that were previously exclusively available in specialized hospitals in Muscat Governorate.
