In a step to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Cyprus in the health sector, and to expand future partnership opportunities between the two friendly nations, H.E. Michael Damianos, Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, began a two-day official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
As part of the visit’s program, H.E. Michael Damianos and his accompanying delegation met today (Monday) with H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health of the Sultanate of Oman, at his office at the Ministry’s headquarters.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged cordial conversations and discussed matters of mutual interest. They reviewed the health sectors in both countries, highlighted key achievements, and explored ways to expand cooperation and partnership in the healthcare field.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Dr. Saeed Al Lamki, Undersecretary for Health Affairs, senior officials, and members of the accompanying Cypriot delegation.
An official session of bilateral talks was held, chaired by H.E. Dr. Hilal Al Sabti on the Omani side and H.E. Michael Damianos on the Cypriot side.
During the session, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in the health sector that includes collaboration in several areas, such as the exchange of experts and delegations in healthcare, health innovation, medical and pharmaceutical sciences, as well as sharing knowledge in rehabilitation and training healthcare professionals.
The MoU also covers the exchange of information, publications, and scientific materials, along with participation in conferences and seminars organized by both parties. It further emphasizes the sharing of expertise and information for the development of medical institutions, fostering direct cooperation between health institutions and relevant bodies, and supporting the participation of researchers, doctors, and administrators from both countries in various health-related events.
In addition, H.E. Damianos and his delegation visited the Royal Hospital, where they toured various departments and were briefed on its medical specialties and the advanced services it provides, which are comparable to leading global health institutions. They also reviewed the hospital's modern equipment, diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, and its role as a tertiary care facility serving all governorates of Oman.
The delegation also visited Al Khuwair Health Center, where they toured the center’s departments and clinics, reviewed its operational procedures, and listened to a detailed briefing from the staff on the medical services provided to the public.
