Under the theme "Transforming Women’s Healthcare Through Global Collaboration", the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) opened today (Tuesday) its highly anticipated World Congress 2024 in Oman, bringing together experts from around the world to address issues on women’s health.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, was under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, with the presence number of their Excellencies Undersecretaries, and high-ranking officials.
The congress opened with a speech by Dr. Ranee Thakar, President of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, who emphasized that this year’s Congress is truly an unparalleled opportunity to know about the latest advances in the specialty, she stated: ‘’We are living in challenging times, but by supporting each other as part of one global Obstetrics and Gynaecology community, we will continue to deliver our shared mission of improving the health of women and girls around the world.’’
Dr. Tamima Rashid Al Dughaishi, President of Omani Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OSOG) gave a speech confirming the Society’s vision since establishment in 2013 which is directed to enhance women’s health in Oman through organizing national and international conferences, promoting scientific research, and expanding international collaboration. “ From the outset, building a partnership with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, one of the most prestigious institutions in this field worldwide, has been a primary goal for us” Dr. Al Dughaishi outlined.
During the ceremony, Professor Hassan Sallam delivered an enriching keynote speech on “The Legacy of Middle Eastern Medicine’’.
This global event, organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Omani Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OSOG) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is taking place for the first time in the Middle East attracting over (2000) healthcare professionals and researchers from more than (80) countries to discuss the latest advancements in obstetrics and gynecology.
The conference includes an exhibition with over fifty companies showcasing the latest developments in obstetrics and gynecology from around the world. The accompanying exhibition also display several lectures and the presentation of more than 1,700 scientific posters.
Over three days, attendees will have the opportunity to witness scientific presentations and discussions through five parallel streams covering over 30 specialist areas of women’s health such as high risk pregnancy, maternal medicine, Gynae-oncology, and current challenges in women’s health.
One of the standout features of this year’s congress is Innovation, showcasing groundbreaking technologies and tools designed to enhance women’s health. From healthcare solutions to advancements in minimally invasive surgery, participants have the opportunity to engage with the latest innovations that promise to transform women care.
The RCOG World Congress also provides a unique platform for networking and collaboration among healthcare professionals. Attendees can share insights, discuss best practices, and forge partnerships aimed at improving healthcare outcomes for women around the globe.
Notably, eight cutting-edge pre-Congress workshops were conducted on Monday on key topics run by renowned experts in the field, covering topics such as fetal interventions, advancements in prenatal care and pregnancy emergencies, and the latest surgical techniques.
