The Healthcare Management and Organization Committee held today (Thursday) its third meeting at the Ministry of Health's headquarters.
The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Hilal Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, with the attendance of committee’s high-profile members.
The meeting reviewed an update on the strategic program for human resource development, the Unified Medicine Purchase Committee of medical institutions in both civil and military sectors, as well the actions implemented by the taskforce responsible for regulating the dispatch of human biological samples to medical laboratories outside Oman.
Moreover, the meeting discussed various topics including enhancing integration and optimal use of resources among MOH, Medical City for Military and Security Services, and University Medical City, and the role of visiting doctors. Studies update on the incidence of chronic diseases in Omani society were also reviewed in the meeting along with proposing preventive solutions to reduce the rates of chronic diseases while promoting regular health screenings for citizens.
Further discussions covered the Bone Bank, finding appropriate solutions to increase the proportion of male graduates in human medicine, the shortage of medical personnel in certain rare specialties, and the need for experience exchange between healthcare institutions. The meeting also touched upon the establishment of a database for retired healthcare practitioners to involve them in the education and consultation within their communities.
Within the meeting agenda, the engagement and empowerment of local non-governmental institutions and associations in disease prevention initiatives and primary healthcare strategies were addressed in addition to providing more training opportunities for in OMSB’s fellowship programs for the physicians of medical city for military and security services. OMSB adoption of master's and doctoral clinical programs for dentists, and the incorporation of emerging technologies in healthcare were also key points.
