Health Ministry Organizes Training Workshop on RCA
The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Patients Safety and Risks Management Department in the Directorate General of Quality Assurance Center in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) organized today Tuesday a training workshop on Root Cause Analysis system (RCA) at Al-Shafaq Club in the presence of Dr. Ahmed bin Salim al-Manthari, Director General of Quality Assurance Center.
A total of 50 participants from different MOH institutions including hospitals and primary healthcare institutions, as well as from other sectors such as Armed Forces Hospital, Diwan Royal Court, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, as well as Royal Oman Police were attended this workshop.
The two-day workshop aimed at engage the participants in the unique contribution of RCA and develop the skills needed to conduct effective system-based investigations. In addition, study the methodology and philosophy of effective system investigations.
The workshop included a lecture by Ms. Donna Lorrae Forsyth, Associate Director of Patient Safety in the National Health Services UK. She highlighted that when a problem happen at work instead of treating only the symptoms, there is a need to actually go deeper and conduct a root cause analysis utilizing different tools to find out why the problem occur for the first place and seek the origin of the problem.
