The Ministry of Health, represented by the Department of Woman and Child Health, organized Today, Thursday, a national workshop on “Expanded Newborn Screening” at the Maani Hotel in Muscat.
The workshop was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Said bin Harib Al-Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Jan Jabbour, WHO Representative in Oman, H.E. Sumaira Chowdhury, UNICEF Representative, along with Dr. Jamila bint Taysir Al-Abri, Director of the Department of Woman and Child Health, and several directors general and officials from various health, military, and security institutions.
The workshop was attended by pediatricians, obstetricians and gynecologists, nursing departments, laboratory technicians, heads of woman and child health departments in health directorates in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, government health institutions, stakeholders from international organizations, and the Ministry of Social Development. Furthermore, Speakers from the Woman and Child Health Department, pediatricians from the Royal Hospital, and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital gave lectures.
The Ministry of Health places special emphasis on childhood, recognizing that this demographic is the cornerstone of the future. In this regard, it strives to achieve the highest health standards by enhancing the healthcare services provided to children, reducing morbidity and mortality rates among them, and minimizing injuries and fatalities resulting from accidents. Additionally, the Ministry aims to raise community awareness about childhood diseases, their causes, and prevention methods, while also promoting the role of the private sector and non-governmental organizations in providing healthcare services for children.
