To promote the principle of integration and improve healthcare services for citizens and residents across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Subti, Minister of Health, chaired the first meeting of the Healthcare Management and Regulation Committee for 2025 today (Wednesday) at the Ministry of Health's headquarters.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Dr. Said bin Harib Al-Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, H.E. Dr. Fatima bint Mohammed Al-Ajmi, Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Medical Specialties Board, along with several directors general and officials from the Ministry of Health, the Medical City Hospital for Military and Medical Services, and the University Medical City.
During the meeting, the agenda was approved, and discussions were held on the implementation of recommendations from the third meeting of the committee in 2024. Several topics were addressed, including the transfer of patients between primary healthcare centers and emergency departments, the integration of emerging technologies in healthcare, and the establishment of a database for retired healthcare practitioners. This database aims to designate these practitioners as local points of contact within their communities, allowing them to actively participate in education and consultation. In addition, the meeting examined the impact of maternity leave following the implementation of the new social protection system.
The meeting included several presentations, including a presentation on the blood bank by Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salim Al-Busaidi, Oncology Consultant at the Medical City Hospital for Military and Medical Services. Another presentation focused on the policy for handling the transport of processed human biological samples in laboratories inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, presented by Dr. Ferial Al-Lawati, Senior Consultant Physician at the Royal Hospital. Furthermore, Dr. Abdullah Al-Asmi, Associate Professor and Senior Consultant in Neurology at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, and Chairman of the Higher Medical Committee, gave a presentation on the Higher Medical Committee.
