The Royal Hospital (RH) represented by the Adolescent Medicine Unit marked today (Wednesday) the International Adolescent Health Week (IAHW) to advocate for a successful transition into adulthood.
The event was held under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Hosni, Ministry of Health’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs, with the participation of a team from Royal Oman Police (ROP) and a group of young people in adolescence with their parents.
Dr. Nahid Jaber, Head of RH’s Adolescent Medicine Unit gave a presentation on the importance of IAHW and demonstrated the role of Adolescent Medicine Unit in placing the Sultanate of Oman on the global map of adolescent health international through medical endeavor, academic education, along with community awareness and education.
From their part, the ROP represented by the Directorate General of Combatting Drugs & Psychotropic Substances presented psychotropic substances and their risks.
Number of schools students and young people took part in the event by addressing the challenges that they might face to receive motivation and support their abilities in making decisions.
The event included an exhibition of the Royal Oman Police that provided educational brochures and visual awareness materials on the most health problems suffered by the adolescents and youth.
The day at the end honored both participants and organizers.
It should be noted that theAdolescent Medicine Unit in Royal Hospital is the first-of-its-kind in the country as well the region regarding the provision of health services to this age group.
