Ministry Marks World Respiratory Care Week
The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Directorate General of Specialized Medical Care, Respiratory Care Section organized today (Monday) an event to mark World Respiratory Care Week, that is observed in the last week of October.
The event, took place at the Muscat Grand Mall, was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Darweesh Saif Al Maharbi, MOH’s Undersecretary for Administrative & Financial Affairs, with the presence of MOH senior officials.
The celebration is held with the aim of encouraging involvement and development of the profession in the community throughout the Sultanate’s governorates, and recognizing the profession as a medical specialist.
The event highlighted the importance of Respiratory care and role in the society as well as identified its tasks in the intensive care unit.
At the end of the celebration, the patron of the event honored the respiratory therapists working in the Sultanate’s hospitals.
On the sidelines of the event, an awareness exhibition was held focusing on the works of the Respiratory care and the treatments methods.
It should be noted that the celebration of the Day is the third in the Sultanate as the profession of respiratory therapy is new in the country. Its establishment was at the Royal Hospital in 1990 with only one respiratory therapist, evolving later to include 61 specialists and technicians providing respiratory care service all over the Sultanate’s hospitals.
