In a proactive step reflecting its commitment to supporting national economic growth in the health sector, the Ministry of Health announced today Sunday the signing of advance purchase agreements from six local medical factories, according to the approved specifications and standards.
During the closing ceremony of the National Local Content Lab, the Ministry of Health signed preliminary advance purchase agreements in the field of medical industries with Philex Pharmaceuticals, Menagene Pharmaceuticals, Opal Bio Pharma, Dhofar Pharma, Izz Pharma, and Health Supplies Factory to localize some medical supplies as well a variety of pharmaceutical injection drugs and specialized drugs for treating genetic diseases, metabolic diseases, genetic blood diseases, biological drugs, intravenous and dialysis solutions.
H.E. Sulaiman Nasser Al Haji, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs signed the agreements on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
These strategic agreements between the Ministry of Health and local factories provide strong support for the local content of medical industries, which enhances local innovation, boosts the competitive capabilities of national industries, and encourages these industries to expand their production, provided that quality is maintained.
These agreements are the result of combined efforts between various concerned parties, represented by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, General Secretariat of Tender Board, and the Oman National Program for Private Sector & Foreign Trade Development (Nazdaher), to prepare a general framework for the advance purchase policy in the health sector, based on the recommendations of the Health Investment Lab held on December 2022.
This national investment step encourages the medical industry sector in the Sultanate of Oman, reinforcing the country's pharmaceutical security, which is a priority within Oman’s strategic goals, ensuring the continued supply of medicines and medical supplies, reducing dependency on imports, and enhancing the flexibility of the health sector to face various challenges.
The Ministry of Health reaffirms its unwavering commitment to advancing the implementation of these agreements, marking the beginning of a new era for local production and technological innovation in the pharmaceutical and medical industries.
