MOH Completes PSFH Evaluation
The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance Center and in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) completed recently the evaluation of four hospitals; three are government hospital and one is a private hospital.
These hospitals were involved last year in the Patients Safety Friendly Hospital initiative (PSFH) launched by the WHO in 2012.
The evaluation came within the MOH Ninth Five-Year Plan, which seeks to establish an evidence-based patient safety system that complies with the international standards.
The WHO experts performed the evaluation process within two-weeks, where they visited Khawla, Ibra, Sohar and Bader Al-Sama (Ruwi branch) Hospitals.
During the evaluation process, the experts reviewed all documents related to the work during providing health services, as well as interviewed the senior officials, staff and patients. The experts also visited the various departments and units in the hospitals in order to observe the implementation of health standards.
The good evaluation results reflected the commitment and concern of all staff and leaders in these institutions by applying the initiative standards. The experts have seen unique procedures in these hospitals in terms of the innovation of applying these procedures, its suitability for the work environment and low cost of its application. These procedures raise the quality of health services in general and the safety of service received by the community members in particular, as well as contributes to proper utilization of the available human and financial resources.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health has started to implement this initiative in 2016. The total number of the hospital applied this initiative reached (19) including (16) hospitals affiliated to the Ministry and three private hospitals. The Ministry is seeking to apply this initiative in all its hospitals and the private hospitals at the end of 2020.
The experts evaluated last year four hospitals, which are Rustaq, Nizwa, Al-Rifa'a and Star Care.
