MOH Marked World Health Day 2018
The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Health Education & Awareness Programs Department in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) organized recently an event to celebrate the 2018 World Health Day, which comes on the 7th of April every year.
The theme of this year’s World Health Day is “Universal Health Coverage: everyone, everywhere” under the slogan “Health for All”.
The event is held at the Muscat Grand Mall under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Talib Al Hanai, MOH’s Undersecretary for Planning Affairs, with the attendance of public health community, stakeholders, and representatives of international organizations.
The World Health Day represented an opportunity to shed light on the needs for universal health coverage and the positive outcomes for health.
Quoting the message of the Acting Regional Director, Dr Jaouad Mahjour, Dr Akjemal Magtymova, WHO Representative to the Sultanate of Oman said “Universal Health Coverage is about ensuring access to essential quality care and financial protection”. This not only enhances people’s health and their life expectancy, it also protects countries from epidemics, reduces poverty, creates jobs, drives economic growth and enhances gender equality.
She added that the WHO reiterates its commitment to promoting health for all to ensure that no one anywhere is left behind.
Within the event, H.E. Dr. Al Hanai honored the winners of the World Health Day Art competition.
After that, the patron of the event was briefed on the accompanying exhibition various corners.
