MOH Organizes Training Workshop on School Mental Health

A training workshop on training the trainers on the instruction manual for the school mental health services kicked off today (Tuesday) in the presence of Dr. Bader bin Ali Al-Habsi, Director of Al- Massara Hospital at City seasons Hotel.
The training workshop is organized by the Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Directorate General of Primary Health Care, Department of School & University Health in cooperation with Al- Massara Hospital and the World Health Organization (WHO).
In pursuit of the Ministry to strengthen the mental health, the Department of School & University Health has prepared the instruction manual for the school and university health services to enhance the mental health at schools.
The training workshop, which lectured by a selection of trainers specialized in mental health, targets (23) school health nurses across the Sultanate governorates.
In this regard, Faiqah bint Ali Al-Sinani, MOH Director of School & University Health underlined the importance of mental health at schools, the early detection of psychological symptoms. She also praised the WHO role in this regard.
As most mental health problems emerge during adolescence period and in early adulthood, this training workshop focuses on strengthening the mental health and prevention of school mental health problems.
The three-day workshop seeks to qualify the trainers on understanding the social and psychological development of the students, identifying roles and responsibilities of professionals in mental health services, and how to perform an initial assessment for the students in order to identify those with psychological difficulties. In addition, it aims to integrate mental health in the school activities, enhancing the school environment to be a health-promoting environment and training the participants in dealing with the most common psychological problems in schools.
