In a step to enhance emergency and health risk management, and as part of the effort to compile short- and long-term risk profiles fo¬¬r the year 2026, the Ministry of Health, represented by the Center for Emergency Management, convened today (Sunday) the first meeting of the National Risk Register (Health Sector Representatives) at Kempinski Hotel Muscat.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr. Saeed Harib Al Lamki, MOH’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs and Head of the Health Sector in the National Risk Register, along with several director-generals from various civil, military, and security government entities, as well as representatives from healthcare and academic institutions.
Dr. Mohammed Al Busafi, Director of Emergency Management Center, delivered the opening address stating that this strategic project represents a significant step toward building an integrated national system for monitoring, analyzing, and assessing health risks, and it aligns directly with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040, which positions health as a fundamental pillar for human well-being and sustainable development.
Dr. Al Busafi emphasized that the establishment of the National Health Risk Register is not merely a healthcare initiative, but a cross-sectoral national project that includes civil, military, security, research, and community institutions. He concluded that risks do not recognize administrative boundaries or specific sectors; therefore, the response must be collective, integrated, and based on the highest standards of coordination and collaboration.
The meeting aimed to review national health-related risks, strengthen cooperation among sector representatives, assess risk mitigation procedures, and explore mechanisms and methods for risk management in line with international standards.
The agenda included several presentations on risk management, environmental risks, zoonotic and plant-borne infectious diseases, human infectious diseases, and cybersecurity threats.
