As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Oman’s healthcare system and expand specialized medical services across the Sultanate, the Ministry of Health, represented by the Directorate General of Health Services in North Al Batinah, marked today (Sunday) the opening of a new Nephrology Unit in the Wilayat of Al Khaboura.
The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Hamid Al Hosni, Member of Shura Council representing Al Khaboura, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Saeed bin Harib Al Lamki, MOH’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs, along with the Wali of Al Khaboura, several sheikhs, dignitaries, and officials from North Al Batinah Health.
The unit has already begun offering services using the latest medical equipment, significantly reducing the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for dialysis. The new facility provides high-quality specialized care within close reach of residents.
Constructed on a land area of (70,726.5) square meters—with a built-up area of (1,864.42) square meters, the facility costed a total of (1,184,337.95) Omani Rials. It was designed in accordance with approved technical standards for modern dialysis units.
The new Nephrology Unit in Al Khaboura features (18) dialysis beds—14 in the main hall, two in isolation rooms, and two dedicated to peritoneal dialysis. The facility also includes several supporting medical and service sections such as a pharmacy, laboratory, medical equipment room, medical storeroom, on-call doctor’s room, nurses’ room, and other operational areas.
Engineer Yousuf Ambuali, Director General of Projects and Engineering Services at the Ministry of Health, stated that the establishment of the unit is part of the Ministry’s plan to expand specialized services and make dialysis units more accessible to populated areas. He added that Al Khaboura unit will strengthen the healthcare system in North Al Batinah, offer advanced treatment, ease the load on units in other wilayat.
This project is among the continuing health developments in North Al Batinah and aligns with the Ministry’s broader strategy to enhance the quality of healthcare services and expand modern medical facilities across various wilayats, supporting Oman’s comprehensive health development agenda and advancing the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in promoting community health and delivering treatment services at the highest standards.
