The Sultanate of Oman has surpassed (300) cornea transplant surgeries without the need for patients to travel abroad, marking a qualitative achievement as the Ministry of Health reactivates and operates the national cornea transplant program.
This milestone, reached by the end of October 2026, has significantly contributed to reducing waiting lists and alleviating the need for patients to seek medical treatment outside Oman.
The Omani Center for Organ Transplantation is actively working to expand transplantation services to include various types of transplants. In parallel, efforts are underway to establish a cornea bank to support the provision and regulation of these services in accordance with approved medical standards.
These steps are part of the Ministry's broader plans to develop the national healthcare system and enhance the efficiency of specialized services. By providing advanced care within the Sultanate, Oman aims to solidify its position in the field of human organ and tissue transplantation.
