Oman has demonstrated proactive leadership in combating antimicrobial resistance and has made significant efforts to implement the global action plan to combat AMR by hosting the third high-level global ministerial conference in Muscat on November 24 and 25, 2022. The goal was to accelerate responses to antimicrobial resistance at national, regional, and global levels, enhancing effective cooperation among countries, sectors, and organizations.
The Muscat Ministerial Statement, adopted by 47 countries, includes several key recommendations, the most important of which is to establish indicators for the use of antimicrobials in human health, animal health, and food production, as well as to govern this use. At the same time, it emphasizes research, innovation, and manufacturing to develop alternative preventive and therapeutic solutions. Notably, Oman is a member of the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance, established in 2020.
