His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Salem Al Mandhari, the Ministry of Health’s Undersecretary for Planning and Health Regulation visited today (Thursday) Nizwa Hospital in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, accompanied by Dr. Nasser Al Shukaili, Director General of Health Services in the Governorate and hospital’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, as well number of hospital’s senior officials and representatives from BP Oman.
During his visit, the Planning and Health Regulation Undersecretary inaugurated officially the Sleep Laboratory, that was funded by BP Oman Company. The laboratory is a significant addition to Nizwa Hospital, and is specialized in diagnosing various sleep disorders such as snoring (sleep apnea) and epilepsy, using sleep disorders measurement and analysis devices.
By its opening, the Lab will contribute in raising awareness about the importance of sleep and its fundamental role in human health, alleviating meanwhile the burden on hospitals in Muscat Governorate, reducing waiting lists, and facilitating services access for patients.
The sleep laboratory in NH has a number of two sleep disorders consultants and sleep analysis technicians, who provide patient consultation services, diagnosis, and discussion of treatment plans.
Later, H.E. Dr. Al Mandhari toured some of hospital’s departments and units including endoscopy department, the cardiac care unit, and the cardiac catheterization lab, and was briefed on their services.
Moreover, achievements made by the hospital during the past period, as well as the new projects that have been added, and future projects were highlighted during the visit, and a number of proposals and initiatives aiming at developing the health services at the hospital level in particular and at the national level in general were discussed.
His Excellency Dr. Al Mandhri honored BP Oman Company for its continuous support to the hospital projects. He also honored several employees of the hospital's Quality Assurance Department and participants in the Patient Safety Evaluation Program at the hospital.
