The PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) kicked off today (Sunday) at the Hormuz Grand Hotel for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman. The training program is organized by the Department of Women and Child Health of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the International PROMPT Maternity Foundation in the United Kingdom.
The program's opening ceremony was held under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Said Harib Al-Lamki, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs. Several officials also attended the event.
The two–day program aims to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals including obstetricians, anesthetists, and midwives to deal with the emergency cases that may occur during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. This training is one of the most important interventions for reducing maternal and infant mortality.
The program involves 12 teams of doctors and midwives from 12 healthcare institutions providing maternity services across the governorates. Additionally, a number of Omani doctors and midwives, from the Royal Hospital and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, who have previously undergone the same training outside the Sultanate will also participate in the program in order to refine their knowledge and skills.
The training will cover the basics of teamwork within a single institution when encountering critical cases, including how to manage obstructed labor, and pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, and postpartum hemorrhage. Simulation-based training will be utilized, where critical cases and their management will be represented.
