Sultan Qaboos Hospital Opens Stroke Unit
The Directorate General of Health Services of Dhofar Governorate (DGHS-DG) opended on Sunday the new stroke unit at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital (SQH) under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Ya'rub Al-Busaidi, Advisor of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs in the presence of Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Mishikhi, DGHS-DG Director-General.
Dr. Nassir Al-Awaid, Head of Internal Medicine at the SQH said that the stroke unit is of great importance in improving the health of patients with strokes and paralysis. He added that having integrated units and departments in the Hospital is very important as an advanced CT scan contributes reducing time and effort in detecting strokes.Dr. Amal Al-Hashmia, Head of Stroke Unit at Khoula Hospital pointed out that the strokes cases ranked second place in the list of injuries causing death and the third place in causing disability according to the global statistics in 2015. She said that the strokes are not only affecting the elderly, but also the youngsters as well.The chief guest toured the two stroke units, which are in the internal medicine departments.
