Sultanate Reviews Experience in COVID-19 Control
The Sultanate has reviewed with the World Health Organization through video conferencing its groundbreaking experience in the field of combating corona virus 2019 (COVID-19) from the Eastern Mediterranean Region with the presence of all Ministers of Health and Representatives of other WHO Regions.
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health made a detailed presentation on all measures and efforts carried out by the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik-may Allah protect Him- from the establishment of the Supreme Committee tasked to deal with the developments resulting from COVID-19 outbreak, along with the decisive actions undertaken to reduce its spread in the country, as well as supporting the international response as per the International Health Regulations.
The Sultanate, as the only EMR country to showcase its experience in this meeting, highlighted its efforts in implementing strict containment measures to slow down the spread of the pandemic, following a structured epidemiological surveillance system developed by specialists to protect both health workers at the frontlines and the Omani community. This challenging pandemic has displayed the extraordinary response from the relevant sectors and the awareness of community members.
Furthermore, the Sultanate is deploying the artificial intelligence during the pandemic and made available a phone application (Tarassud) that provides covid-19 updates and digital statistics. It is also implementing procedures that provide guidance for the various activities of preparedness, management, response, and the coherent use of information resources in addition to designing educational and awareness messages and statistics on a daily basis.
Additionally, it is conducting national workshops, training courses for monitoring, management, and emergency operations throughout the country, and participating in international seminars and research. It activates partnership with the private health sector to made health services accessible for both citizens and residents regarding the diagnosis and management of patients with Coronavirus, and utilizing strategies for control and response along with the government health sector.
