WHO Discusses Programme of Cooperation with Ministry of Health
H.E. Dr. Ali bin Talib Al Hinai, Ministry of Health’s Undersecretary of Planning Affairs chaired recently the meeting held with the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding country cooperation with the Ministry at the Crown Plaza Hotel. The meeting was co-chaired by. Dr Akjemal Magtymova, WHO Representative, Oman who briefed the officials about the WHO's 13th Global Program of Work, the Organization's transformation agenda and the ongoing 142nd Executive Board meeting in Geneva.
The current status and health indicators related to Sustainable Development Goals were reviewed. A "whole of government and whole of the society" approach was recognized as a key issue in addressing the direct and indirect determinants of health, especially in addressing the highest disease burden in the country, non-communicable diseases.
During the meeting, collaborative biannual work plan between the Ministry of Health and WHO were reviewed. Key accomplishments in the past two years were recognized including the collaborative work on patient safety and quality of pharmaceutical care and the numerous ways Oman contributes to the regional and global health agenda. Operational issues for the coming two years were also discussed.
It is worth noted that the WHO and Oman enjoy trusted partnership since 1971, extending equal technical cooperation for promoting health and development.
The meeting was attended by Ministry of Health officials, public health officers and managers.
