An honoring ceremony for the Muscat Health Innovation Competition, organized by the Directorate General of Health Services at Muscat Governorate, was held today (Sunday) under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
The event was attended by H.E. Dr. Saeed Harib Al Lamki, Ministry of Health’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs, along with several directors general and officials from MOH and various sectors, as well as investors, business leaders, representatives from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, and other supporters.
The ceremony was opened by a welcoming speech by Dr. Thamrah Al Ghafri, Director General of Muscat Health, where she emphasized that innovation in the health sector extends beyond the development of treatments and medical devices as it also includes improving the quality of life and enhancing health awareness among community members.
Muscat Health Director General further noted that collaboration between government, private, and academic sectors is crucial for achieving sustainable innovation; through this partnership, a strong and resilient health system capable of facing future challenges can be built. The exchange of expertise and knowledge, along with unified efforts, contributes to creating an environment that fosters creativity and innovation, Dr. Al Ghafri added.
Dr. Al-Ghafri stressed the importance of innovators, who bear the responsibility of leading the advancement of the health sector, stating: “Supporting and empowering innovators is an investment in the country's future and the well-being of its people; the new ideas and ambitious projects they present serve as the driving force for progress and prosperity”.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the top three winners of the competition. First place was awarded to Madiha Al Balushi, second place went to Asma Bait Ishaq, and the third award was given to Amina Al Ghamari.
In addition to the award presentations, the event featured a showcase of all competition entries, allowing attendees to engage with the innovators directly and explore their projects. All competitors were honored.
The ceremony was a culmination of the project launched by DGHS-Muscat at the beginning of this year titled "Change Management and Institutional Innovation," which aligns with the governorate's commitment to promoting a culture of innovation and advancing development in the healthcare sector. This competition was designed to encourage employees from various backgrounds to present innovative ideas and projects that contribute to improving the work environment, enhancing healthcare services, and providing effective solutions to the challenges faced by the healthcare sector.
