About Us


The Undersecretariat for Health Affairs at the Ministry of Health is responsible for providing, organizing and supervising health services in the government health care institutions in a way that ensures the equitable distribution and easy access to these services at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels to serve every citizen and resident in all parts of the Sultanate.

 

Directorates affiliated with the Health Affairs Undersecretariat

  • General Directorate of Khawla and Al Nahda Hospitals

  • General Directorate of Primary Health Care

  • General Directorate of Specialized Medical Care

  • General Directorate of Disease Surveillance and Control

  • General Directorate of Private Health Institutions

  • General Directorate of Nursing

  • General Directorate of Pharmacy and Drug Control

  • Medical Response Sector

These directorates - each under its competencies - are responsible for developing policies, strategies, frameworks of action and follow-up mechanisms for all different health programs and developing appropriate indicators to measure performance and implementation based on the health status of the community. These directorates also work toward conducting various interventions, to include, but not limited to, preventative, curative and rehabilitative, recovery and palliative care programs, by ensuring the following:

 

  • Supervising the provision of the best and most effective health services and medical practices in terms of cost and time.

  • Improving the level of specialized care.

  • Providing support and cooperation in the form of emergency services and public health services during the times of national emergencies and crises.

  • Evaluating current administrative practices, policies and organizational structures.

  • Supporting the private health sector and developing regulations to facilitate the provision of its services.

  • Resolving problems and issues that may arise during complex health care operations, including the inter-relations among different health institutions.
