In a renewed health achievement that reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s steadfast commitment to protecting public health and strengthening national gains in prevention and immunization, the Regional Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication of the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that Oman remains free of polio.
The confirmation was issued during the 40th regional meeting held in Sharm El Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt, from 9 to 11 June, where the Commission commended the integrated national efforts that have contributed to sustaining this public health milestone for more than three decades, in line with the highest internationally adopted standards and practices.
The Ministry of Health, represented by the National Certification Committee for Polio Eradication and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, participated in the meeting, which reviewed reports from countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region and discussed progress achieved as well as challenges facing polio eradication programmes.
The Regional Commission praised Oman’s national efforts, which have enabled the country to remain polio-free for over thirty years, highlighting the efficiency of immunization programmes, epidemiological surveillance systems, and the sustainability of this public health achievement.
This confirmation reflects the advanced position the Sultanate of Oman holds in the field of communicable disease prevention and the strengthening of health security.
