H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health inaugurated today (Thursday) the new Dialysis Center in Al Amerat, with the presence of number of Excellencies, Shiekhs, Ministry’s senior officials as well the invitees.

The project costed more than one million  funded by the heirs of Abdullah Moosa Al Raisi.

The Minister of Health stated that kidney failure incidents in Sultanate of Oman as the rest of the GCC countries region are seeing an increase due to the known reasons most significant of which are diabetes and hypertension. He added that 40% of such disease can be avoided through adopting a healthy lifestyle, following an appropriate diet, and performing physical activity, while 80% can be cured after diagnosis if following these practices.

Al Saidi pointed out than around (3000) patient are on dialysis, remarking that kidney transplantation is considered a successful therapy procedure for such conditions. The center is located in Al Nahdha Health Center in an area of 1300 m2, with a capacity of (42) beds, ten of which are for isolation. The Center includes (5) dialysis rooms, a pharmacy, two offices for doctor and nursing supervisor, a meeting hall, in addition to a training room, a medical warehouse, a treatment room, patient waiting area, and personnel changing room.

At the opening, a presentation on the project and kidney failure disease was displayed. Later, the patron of the event and the attendees toured the sections of center and were informed about the services provided to patients and clients.

 (50) Employees representing physicians, nurses, medical orderlies, and medical records clerks are working in the facility. 

The center is operating all days except Fridays in two shifts, the morning timing starts from 7 am until 12 pm, while the evening timing begins from 1 pm until 4 pm. 

The Dialysis Center in Al Amirat constitutes a qualitative leap in the health services provided in the Wilayat in particular and in Muscat Governorate in general. It will serve a large proportion of patients undergoing dialysis who are residing in Amirat, Muscat, and Matrah, reducing subsequently the load on the Dialysis Centers in the Governorate.

It should be noted that a total of (5) Dialysis Centers are functioning in the Governorate of Muscat distributed at the Dialysis Center in Bushar and Seeb, Quaryat Hospital, Royal Hospital, and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, with a capacity to accommodate up to (662) patients monthly.

The Directorate General of Health Services in Muscat Governorate launched in a while medical devices for the Dialysis Center in Bushar, that is  the Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Development Foundation (ODF). The project included replacing the two water pre-treatment plants with new standardized modern unit that allows for disinfection of the distribution piping system in two methods that are chemical disinfection and hot water disinfection, in addition to replacing all dialysis water distribution piping system. The project further included the extension of Bushar’s Dialysis building and increasing bed capacity.

The Ministry of Health has prioritized health care in its development programs in line with the prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
